Imagery and Insight

Where's the fic? On my website. I don't use LJ to host any of my fic, although I do sometimes promote new fic here. Livejournal is an entity whose longevity is outside my control, and whose security is inadequate for my peace of mind. I cannot trust it as the primary home of my fanfiction and still sleep nights.

What is your fanfiction labeling policy? Read about that here, and please note that the policy is specifically designed to match my own personal existing fics, and does not necessarily cover issues that have not specifically arisen in my fics. If I don't mention something, that likely means I've never written it, not that I have any particular opinions regarding anyone else doing so.

What types of fic do you write? Het, Gen, Femslash, and -- relatively rarely -- slash. The pairings I write the most are canon more often than not, although that's more habit than rule. I generally prefer sci-fi and fantasy based fandoms.

What is your spoiler policy? I rarely make reaction posts to new episodes, I always use a spoiler cut, and I try to err on the side of caution. I don't like being spoiled for things, unless I need to be spoiled. Don't assume you know what that means until you've been around a while.

Can I have an icon? Want. Take. Have. There are more here. Credit appreciated but certainly not required. Feel free to add text to blanks without my permission. If you want one that I'm using, check my user pic page and if it's not my work, then please credit the maker, as I have done. Thanks.

Will you pinch hit for my ficathon? Probably, provided you give me at least some warning. Email me or contact me on Tumblr, I have trouble logging in here rather frequently.

Why don't you ever sign up for any meta? I generally avoid writing meta, or even reading it, because that type of writing often makes my fiction a little less real to me, which spoils my fun. (Lit major aftereffect.) With rare exception, the meta that happens in my own head ends up in fic, rather than in essays. My only notable meta is probably this, which is really more of a rant. With footnotes.

Will you beta something for me? Maybe, but I'm pretty vicious and also bad at deadlines, so you might want to think twice about asking. I have some helpful self-editing tips here and my own betas are always mentioned on my fics, so if you like my writing you likely will appreciate their editing skills.

Friending? You are welcome, but I'm a little extra cautious with friending people back these days. Also, you'll have to point out to me that you've done this friending, or I won't notice. On a related note, if you wish to be defriended, send me a PM. If you've been defriended and wish to be refriended, send me a PM. There's only one person I'm mad at and if you're reading this thoughtfully you're not them.

Dreamwidth? Yes. [personal profile] spiletta42 And yes, I have some code token thingies if you need one. PM me.

AO3? Yes, although I haven't uploaded very much yet:  spiletta42

Tumblr?: Yes.

Can I nominate your fic for something? You're welcome to go ahead, and I'll be flattered, but I find that my fics seem to not mesh with the tastes of the voting public. They're always too long, unless they're too short.

Gifts? I've turned off that v-gift thing, because I'm a cranky spoilsport who thinks it's a waste of money. Also, please don't send me expensive gifts unless you're a millionaire.

(Mood themes not currently in use include the Carrie Underwood theme by feelingalittle, the Shiri Appleby mood theme by space_moods, and an Arrested Development theme by definish_chance, in case you're trying to remember who had that theme you want.) My it's all about the ships journal header, the Sarah Connor banner before it, and all of the graphics used in my profile are my own work. All icons in use which are not my own are credited on the user pic page.

I never remember to update this thing, but if you care what I watched last night, the answer is usually either D.E.B.S. or T2, because I rewatch those frequently. As for what I've seen most recently for the very first time, at least the last time I updated, it's Jupiter Ascending.

Best silly quiz answer ever!

I am:
Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs)
A quiet and underrated master of "hard science" fiction who, among other things, foresaw integrated circuits back in the 1940s.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Marriage is love.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. -- Matthew 5:10

Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Guard your honor. Let your reputation fall where it will. And outlive the bastards. -- Lois McMaster Bujold

Non-Fandom Facts Relevant to Friending Me:

I live in the United States, I'm female, I'm single, and I do not have children. I am well past the legal age for everything, even running for president, but I still have to pay full price at the movies for a good long while yet.

I majored in literature in college, and as a result I do payroll accounting for a living now. My primary interests include science fiction, creative writing, fanfiction, archaeology, cephalopods, paleontology, and horse racing. I enjoy all kinds of music, with my most frequent listening choices being country music (Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler), movie and television scores (with a strong sci-fi bias), and classic rock (The Doors, Procol Harum). My tastes in television, movies, books, and comics are pretty throughly dwelt upon in the fandom section above.

I identify as heterosexual by admittedly problematic heteronormative default, because due to my hermitlike lifestyle, my bisexual leanings apply only to my entertainment choices, and I'm afraid of accidentally appropriating an orientation I have no right to claim. I think Jessica Alba and Eliza Dushku are hot, I read and write a little femslash, and I enjoy LGBT film, but I also think Michael Shanks and David Duchovny are hot, read and write het, and I am more frequently attracted to men, in theory. (In practice I only flirt with gay men and straight women, probably because relationships scare the hell out of me, and I haven't been on a date in decades.) I also like to celebrate female characters, which contrary to the beliefs of some, has nothing to do with sexuality. I mention all of this because someone seems to think that calling me a lesbian is an effective insult. It's not, because I don't particularly care if people think I'm a lesbian. It's just not terribly accurate is all, and I have no wish to portray myself inaccurately.

As for the accusation that I'm a Buddhist -- I have a great respect for Buddhism, and at least one of my favorite fictional characters is a Buddhist, but I myself am a Christian, specifically an American Baptist. I take the Bible seriously, which means I don't hold fast to rigid literal interpretations of bits of scripture, taken out of context and wielded as weapons, but instead am careful to consider the intended message of a passage carefully, with historical context firmly in mind. Most Christians are far less judgmental than certain people make us seem. The primary message that I would spread to others is that God is about love and forgiveness, and is a positive presence in my life.

I have friends of many faiths, and have a respect for belief systems that are not my own. I am open to discussions of religion and philosophy, and personally suspect that there is more to God's plan than he has shared with us. You don't need to keep your beliefs to yourself for my benefit, or fear any negative consequences from sharing them in my space. I request that all of my friends respect each other in that manner.

Politically, I prefer to look at individual issues instead of following a party line but the GOP has meandered into such cartoon evil of late that I'm a liberal democrat by default. I strongly support marriage equality, I believe in the separation of church and state (which doesn't mean what some people think it means), I support keeping God in the Pledge and scientifically supported paleontology in the classroom, while allowing everyone as much freedom of religious expression as possible so long as it does not infringe on anyone else, and I vote Pro-Choice because banning a medical procedure has terrible consequences and the government has no right to interfere in a citizen's medical decisions. I prefer to keep discussions of politics to a minimum in my fannish space, but I do not ban them outright. If you are intensely interested in my specific politics, feel free to read my tumblr, although it's mostly reblogs.

I'm very willing to have friendships with people who hold different opinions from my own, and to do so in a non-judgmental fashion, up to a point. Anyone who propagates hate or feels that their beliefs entitle them to hurt others and feel justified can go away now. (Hurting someone and regretting it is just an unfortunate part of life, though, so I try very hard to avoid holding grudges.)

If you feel you can respect the views I hold, and we have one or more fannish interests in common, friend away. I'm sure I'll enjoy getting to know you.
