FAQ

Will I pitch hit for your ficathon? Probably. Drop me an email. Fandoms are listed below, writing samples are on my website index.

Can you have an icon? Help yourself.

Will I beta something? You'd better use spellcheck first, and be prepared to first beg, and then suffer.

Friending? Go for it. If you want to be friended back in a timely fashion you'll need to comment somewhere.

Where's the fic? On my website. Some of my personal favorites are Badfic!Pete and the Temple of Doom (Stargate SG-1), Blindsided (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), The Verse That Was (Firefly), and Eclipsed (Star Trek Voyager).

Can you nominate my fic for something? Feel free to nominate my Buffy, Firefly, or Roswell fic for anything. I haven't had anything new for Star Trek for a while, though, so give that a pass, and please don't nominate my Stargate SG-1 fic, as I don't write the type of stories enjoyed by the voting majority in that fandom and I don't wish to put myself through the inevitable self-doubt.

Feedback and Concrit? Yes please. I'm always anxious to hear what worked and what didn't work for various readers, and if there's a typo, a dropped word, or other error of some kind, I want to correct it.

Bio

I spend most of my time sitting alone in the basement writing fanfiction, which is a good thing, because my fanfiction rocks. My primary fandoms including Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Roswell, and Firefly. I have so little life outside of fandom it barely warrants mention, other than that I enjoy reading about mesoamerican archaeology, cephalopods, and racehorses.

Fanfiction is pretty important to me. I majored in literature before circumstances forced me into the most non-literary job on Earth, so I depend on this little hobby to give my life meaning. I like to experiment with a wide variety of genres and styles, and I'm happiest when I'm turning a classic cliché on its ear.

Speaking of fanfiction, I almost never post it directly to my journal, and while I do announce it here, I'm terrible about tagging. If you're looking for past fic, go directly to my fic index. It's all sorted and alphabetized.

If you're reading this bio, you're probably trying to decide whether to friend me or not, which probably means you're interested in what fandoms and pairings we have in common. So I should probably summarize my fandom preferences, or just ramble about fictional true love.

I'm a shipper, I must admit it. A great deal -- but not all -- of the fanfic I write includes a shippy element, although I often prefer to read GEN fic, and I don't watch shows just for 'ship, and I won't ship just anyone. In fact, a show had better be darn good for me to even care about a 'ship.

Shows usually need spaceships or aliens or superheroes to get my attention. Then the characters need to be awesome. Then, and only then, will I consider shipping anyone. And then only if I see the chemistry in the source material.

Once I allow a pairing into my heart, I am fiercely loyal to it. This means that I will very rarely read a fic that contradicts one of my OTPs, no matter how well written. In fact, if it contradicts one of my OTPs, than being well written is actually a deterrent to reading it. I am very careful about the pairings that I write, because I know I'll become emotionally involved with the characters, thus probably finalizing the pairing in my own mind. This will impact my enjoyment of the show. Deciding to write a pairing is a big decision for me, and a vast majority of my 'ships are canon (UST counts) because if the original source material doesn't sell me on the pairing, I'm not likely to go looking for it.

I am somewhat reluctant to write fic for shows that are still airing, because I prefer to see where the creators will take us. I don't want my viewing prejudiced by how events in an episode will impact my fanfic, shippy or otherwise. This is why you won't see any Battlestar Galactica fic from me quite yet, unless a short humor ficlet comes to me in my sleep.

Daniel/Vala is my OTP. They're fabulous together. Daniel's been my favorite since the beginning, but it wasn't until Vala showed up that I shipped him with anyone in fanfiction. I love Vala as much as I love Daniel, because she's the most fabulous character in the universe. Now that Daniel and Vala are in each other's lives, it's for keeps. Don't argue with me on this point.

The same goes for Sam/Jack. I cannot even stand the thought of them not getting a happy ending, and if anyone dares suggest they aren't a couple after Threads . . . well just don't do that, okay?

I watch SG-1 for far more than just 'ship, but they do it so darn well!

In Star Trek, I stick almost entirely to GEN fic for TOS and TNG. I don't really have anything against Picard/Crusher or Imzadi, but I don't care terribly much either. Voyager is another matter. I ship characters that didn't even have spoken lines on screen. I love writing lower decks fic for Voyager, because the concept of the show really appeals to me. With main characters, I'm loyal to Janeway/Chakotay, Paris/Torres, and EMH/7. My favorite DS9 pairing to read is Garak/Bashir, because they had a fascinating canon relationship. Also, ENT is not Trek. Speak not of the show of the stolen name.

In the Buffyverse, on the other hand, I'm more of a multishipper. I will read nearly any pairing if the writing's good enough, and bring on the GEN fic. Personally, I want to see the Faith/Wood and Willow/Kennedy pairings endure, and I ache for Fred/Wes, but I can read about these characters with other people and suspend disbelief enough to enjoy it, especially seeing as these pairings formed late in canon. And yes, I'm a fan of Kennedy, but I also loved Tara. I feel no obligation to dislike one if I like the other, and that pretty much applies to all characters.

With Roswell, I like the conventional pairings. That's Dreamer (Max/Liz), Candy (Michael/Maria), and to some extent Stargazer (Isabel/Alex). I really like In Crowd (Isabel/Kyle) later in the series. I don't generally write or read straight romance fic in Roswell, I prefer to expand upon the sci-fi aspects of the show, with a little tiny side-helping of 'ship, because the show provided plenty of canon ship but sometimes left unanswered questions with regard to the alien stuff, or failed to use it to its full potential.

On Firefly, I again like conventional pairings. Mal/Inara, Zoe/Wash, Simon/Kaylee . . . but the whole "Jayne/Vera OTP!" scares me. When I see that label, I'm relieved to see that the writer in question will keep Jayne's hands off of River, and yet. I can't get enough Jayne genfic, which is odd, and I really love a good caper fic.

With X-Files I stick with Mulder/Scully, aka MSR or MS-ROM, but I like it subtle. With most other shows, I like the canon pairings, like Max/Logan on Dark Angel, Han/Leia in Star Wars, and Sheridan/Delenn on Babylon 5.

I'm bordering on anti-ship for BSG, because the whole Starbuck/Apollo thing is wrong (interestingly wrong, but wrong), but I'm cool with the chemistry between Adama and Roslin, am fascinated in the Helo/Sharon relationship, and rather like Cally with Tyrel, although I'm still awaiting some insight into how that happened. Quite frankly, however, I'm much more interested in plot twists and the development of individual characters than in who ends up in whose rack tonight.

I also avoid pairings with Doctor Who. He's the last surviving member of his species, nine hundred years old, and darn near immortal. He can't spend the rest of his life with anyone. That the Doctor develops deep feelings for his companions is obvious, but deep feelings don't automatically translate to romance. I love the closeness between Rose Tyler and her Doctor, and believe that they love each other deeply, but I don't see that a real romantic relationship between them is a good idea in canon. I'm willing to be proven wrong, though, so don't let my skepticism harsh your squee. I'm definitely cool with the 'ship in fanfic. Nine is my favorite Doctor, by the way, although Ten, Five, Six and Four are all pretty great too.

Torchwood, on the other hand, is built for shipping. Multishipping. Het, slash, OT3, everything fanfic does that makes you roll your eyes -- it's canon in Torchwood. I have no immediate plans to write in that fandom unless a specific need arises, but Tosh is my favorite character.

So you need me to pitch-hit a ficathon? I have written at least some fic for Star Trek, Stargate SG-1, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Roswell, X-Files, Dark Angel, Doctor Who, Animorphs, Red Dwarf, Quantum Leap, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Pinky and the Brain. Additionally, I am probably capable of pulling off Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Everworld, Earth 2, Heroes, X-Men, Veronica Mars, Bones, Star Wars, Torchwood, Sliders and Andromeda. I might be able to write something short for Harry Potter if the prompt is specific, and I'll beta Lord of the Rings but not write it, as I cannot manage Tolkien's style to save my life.

GEN is always fine. For 'ship, my OTPs are listed in the exhaustive essay above. Het and femslash are easy, provided I'm not asked to violate one of my firm OTPs (pretty much Daniel/Vala, Sam/Jack, Mal/Inara, and Max/Logan). Slash is harder, but I'm game if it's teen rated, and again doesn't violate my OTPs.
