spiletta42@spiletta.comFAQWhere's the fic? On my website. I don't use LJ to host any of my fic. What is your fanfiction labeling policy? Read about that here. What is your spoiler policy? I rarely make reaction posts to new episodes, I always use a spoiler cut, and I try to err on the side of caution. I don't like being spoiled for things, unless I need to be spoiled. Don't assume you know what that means until you've been around a while. Can I have an icon? Want. Take. Have. Seriously, help yourself. There are more here. Credit appreciated but certainly not required. Feel free to add text to blanks without my permission. Will you pitch hit for my ficathon? Probably, provided you give me at least some warning. PM me. Why don't you ever sign up for any meta? I generally avoid writing meta, or even reading it, because that type of writing often makes my fiction a little less real to me, which spoils my fun. (Lit major aftereffect.) With rare exception, the meta that happens in my own head ends up in fic, rather than in essays. Will you beta something for me? I'm pretty vicious and also bad at deadlines, so you might want to think twice about asking. I have some helpful self-editing tips here. Friending? You are welcome, but I'm being a little extra cautious with friending people back these days. Also, you'll have to point out to me that you've done this friending, or I won't notice. On a related note, if you wish to be defriended, send me a PM. If you've been defriended and wish to be refriended, send me a PM. Dreamwidth? Yes. spiletta42 And yes, I have some code token thingies if you need one. PM me. Can I nominate your fic for something? I won't take your head off for it, but for the most part I'd rather skip contests these days, because my fics seem to not mesh with the tastes of the voting public. They're always too long, unless they're too short. Gifts? If you send me an iPod I'll send it right back to you, and not just because I already bought myself one and still haven't used it even a single time five months later. Also, I've turned off that v-gift thing, because I'm a cranky spoilsport who thinks it's a waste of money. Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Guard your honor. Let your reputation fall where it will. And outlive the bastards. -- Lois McMaster Bujold
I live in the United States, I'm female, I'm single, and I do not have children. I am well past the legal age for everything, even running for president, but I still have to pay full price at the movies for a good long while yet.
I majored in literature in college, and as a result I do payroll accounting for a living now. My primary interests include science fiction, creative writing, fanfiction, archaeology, cephalopods, and horse racing. I enjoy all kinds of music, with my most frequent listening choices being country music (Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler), movie and television scores (with a strong sci-fi bias), and classic rock (The Doors, Procol Harum). My tastes in television, movies, books, and comics are pretty throughly dwelled upon in the fandom section above.
I identify as heterosexual, but I do have some traits that some people might consider bisexual, which apply primarily to my entertainment choices. In other words, I think Jessica Alba and Eliza Dushku are hot, I read and write a little femslash, and I enjoy GLBT film, but I am primarily attracted to men. I also like to celebrate female characters, which contrary to the beliefs of some, has nothing to do with sexuality. I mention all of this because someone seems to think that calling me a lesbian is an effective insult. It's not, because I don't particularly care if people think I'm a lesbian. It's just not terribly accurate is all, and I have no wish to portray myself inaccurately.
As for the accusation that I'm a Buddhist -- I have a great respect for Buddhism, and at least one of my favorite fictional characters is a Buddhist, but I myself am a Christian, specifically an American Baptist. I take the Bible seriously, which means I don't hold fast to rigid literal interpretations of bits of scripture, taken out of context and wielded as weapons, but instead am careful to consider the intended message of a passage carefully, with historical context firmly in mind. Most Christians are far less judgmental than certain people make us seem. The primary message that I would spread to others is that God is about love and forgiveness, and is a positive presence in my life.
I have friends of many faiths, and have a respect for belief systems that are not my own. I am open to discussions of religion and philosophy, and personally suspect that there is more to God's plan than he has shared with us. You don't need to keep your beliefs to yourself for my benefit, or fear any negative consequences from sharing them in my space. I request that all of my friends respect each other in that manner.
Politically, I prefer to look at individual issues instead of following a party line. I strongly support gay marriage, I'm leery of big government, I believe in the separation of church and state (which doesn't mean what some people think it means), I support keeping God in the Pledge and scientifically supported paleontology in the classroom, and I vote Pro-Choice because my emotional reactions and moral uncertainty do not give me the right to judge someone else's heartwrenching decision or act to block their rights. So yes, I have both right wing and left wing views, which is why I don't care to identify with either party at this time. I prefer to keep discussions of politics to a minimum in my fannish space, but I do not ban them outright.
I'm very willing to have friendships with people who hold different opinions from my own, and to do so in a non-judgmental fashion, up to a point. Anyone who propagates hate or feels that their beliefs entitle them to hurt others and feel justified can go away now. (Hurting someone and regretting it is just an unfortunate part of life, though, so I try very hard to avoid holding grudges.)
If you feel you can respect the views I hold, and we have one or more fannish interests in common, friend away. I'm sure I'll enjoy getting to know you.
